How to file a dig notice
- Call 811 from any phone, or
- Submit the request online at elocate.missdig811.org
- Check the status of an existing ticket at status.missdig811.org
After you file
Utility locators mark their lines at no cost. Wait for the marking before you dig, keep the flags and paint in place for at least 21 days or until work is finished, and dig carefully around marked utilities.
Important limitations
- Only public utility lines are marked. Private service lines on your property may require a private locator.
- Water and sewer service lines are typically marked only in the public right-of-way, not from the curb stop to your meter or building.
- Notification is a legal requirement under Michigan Public Act 174 of 2013 (effective April 1, 2014).
