March meetings

The Board convenes annually in March to hear assessment and taxable-value appeals and to act on poverty exemption applications for the current tax year. Specific session dates are posted in February; appeals are heard by appointment.

July and December meetings

The July session is the Tuesday following the third Monday; the December session is the Tuesday following the second Monday. These sessions are limited by statute to clerical errors, mutual mistakes of fact, qualifying poverty exemptions that could not be considered in March, and Principal Residence Exemption matters.

How to appeal

Contact the Assessor's office to obtain a Petition to Board of Review (state form L-4035) and to schedule an appointment for the March session. Decisions are mailed shortly after the Board adjourns, along with instructions for appealing further to the Michigan Tax Tribunal if you disagree.

State forms

The L-4035 Petition to Board of Review is a state-issued form posted here in its official PDF format because it cannot be substituted with a local web form.
